A PLACE TO BE
Untitled, Series A place to be. 2019

A place to be is a series born from the desire to inhabit, to find or recognize a territory in which to be, to remain, to return, or simply to imagine. More than a physical location, the works propose a symbolic space: an interior destination revealed in the very act of staying, pausing, observing. The artist’s material practice reinforces this notion of rootedness. In each piece, line, fabric, and form act as sensitive coordinates. The line, far from emerging as a spontaneous gesture, becomes conscious, measured even meditative. The forms do not float: they occupy a specific, chosen place. The fabric is sometimes pre-worked, textured before being pictorially intervened upon, in a process that gives the surface body and memory. This attention to
detail reveals a complex freedom: one that does not need to be justified, but affirmed through the beauty of its very existence.

The artist’s life context is subtly yet powerfully intertwined with these works. Between Ibiza and Bogotá two geographies that coexisted as home a luminous duality emerges. It was not about choosing, but about understanding what it means to belong. Within that tension fertile and contradictory a unique form of self-knowledge arises.
The pieces in A Place to Be also gather the stories and faces of those who move through these territories: human beings from different latitudes who, like the artist, find in displacement a form of revelation.
